Facebook lets a free Page post two links a month.

Links in Page posts are clickable. The constraint is a quota, not a rendering rule.

Checked August 2026

Every claim links to its source. These rules change without warning.

How Facebook pays creators

Most of what is written about Facebook monetization describes programmes that no longer exist. In-stream ads, ads on Reels and the Performance bonus all ended on 31 August 2025. Meta's words: that was "the last day that creators were able to earn from any of these monetisation programmes".5

Ignore the thresholds you have read

Ten thousand followers, six hundred thousand watch minutes, five active videos: those were the in-stream ads requirements, and that programme is gone. Its replacement, Facebook content monetization, is invitation only, with no follower, watch-minute or view threshold published at all. Expressing interest "is not an application and it does not guarantee that you will be invited".5

What does have published rules:

  • Stars. 18 or over, in an eligible country, 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days. A separate product from Instagram gifts; balances do not transfer between them
  • Creator Fast Track, announced 18 March 2026, and unusual in that Meta publishes the numbers: $1,000 a month at 100,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, or $3,000 a month above a million, guaranteed for three months, plus immediate access to content monetization6

Content minimums that do exist: a Reel must run at least ten seconds, a Story at least five, and watch time under five seconds does not count. Facebook publishes no RPM; earnings are "as solely determined by Meta".

So the main earning route is something you cannot apply for, with no published bar, while your links are rationed to two a month.

Where a link can actually go

The question here is not where a link will work. It is which two posts a month are worth spending one on.

PlacementVerdictSo do this
Links in organic Page postsConditionalClickable, but rationed. Facebook's words: "you can include links in up to 2 organic posts or comments per month. With a Meta One Advanced, Expert or Max plan, the limit increases." The allowance resets on the first and does not roll over. Spend both on posts you would have made anyway, and use the Page website field for everything else. 1
Links in commentsConditionalSame monthly allowance, with exemptions worth knowing: extra links in comments on a post that already carries one, links to Meta's own properties, Facebook affiliate-partner links, and links in ads. Once you have spent a link on a post, the comments under it are free. 1
Page website fieldClickableThe Page profile has a dedicated Links field and Facebook documents no cap on it. Your permanent placement, and the one to lean on once the monthly two are gone. 2
Facebook StoriesNot documentedMeta's article on Page story stickers lists music, polls, locations, feelings and GIFs, and no link sticker. The only link sticker Meta documents anywhere is Instagram's. Do not plan around a Facebook Story link. 3

One hedge from Facebook, repeated rather than smoothed over: "limits on posts and comments with links may not apply to all Pages." The quota is documented but not stated as universal. Check your own Page before building a month around it.

Label each of the two, so you learn which one to spend.

Two a month is small enough that guessing is expensive. Give each its own label, and by the end of the quarter the report tells you which kind of post is worth an allowance.

All three point at the same page. The code on the end is what tells them apart. Facebook's in-app browser strips the referrer but names itself in the User-Agent, so we can tell Facebook traffic from the rest either way; only the code tells you which of your two posts it was. How the tracking works.

What the report then tells you

Every email address and every payment is counted against the placement it arrived from.

By placement on Facebook

Example
Illustrative figures, not a real account. The shape is the point, not the numbers.
PlacementVisits EmailsPayments Earned
FB post, first of the month 384297 $96
FB page website field 512143 $34
FB post, second of the month 12141 $12

One of your two allowances did eight times what the other did. Worth knowing before you spend next month's.

Facebook will not give you their email addresses.

A Facebook Page gives you follower counts, insights and a way to post. It does not give you your followers' email addresses. On a platform that meters your links at two a month, an address you already hold is the one channel Facebook does not meter.

The Page website field is uncapped, so use it. Point it at a page that carries up to ten links of its own, with a sign-up form and a payment block above them, so a visitor can join your list or pay you instead of only tapping through. We take 0%.

Addresses come from the form on your page and from the opt-in link on a payment receipt, and export as a CSV. How the capture and the consent record work. The free plan collects without limit and shows you the first five.

* Stripe's card fee still applies.
